what is there with words and terminology?

(agaknya, kalau tidak ada 'ada apa dengan cinta', akan adakah tajuk blog dan pelbagai lagi persoalan dengan menggunakan awalan ayat seperti catatan ini?)

meanings we give to words, terms and concept have dominant influence in moulding our attitudes and shaping our worldview. words will formulate our thoughts and attitudes and then, expression of these dognitions. when we hear a term, we will develop specific thoughts or feelings according to one that we have developed in our mind over the years (which often influenced by cultural milieu in which the term is first used to give support to the ideology and way of life in that culture). and a term or concept is always an abstraction or a generalisation.

take muslim fundamentalist for an example. to western media, it conotes negativity - any committed movement-oriented Islamic workler who believes in and practices jihad. it gradually refers to all devoted Muslims who refuse the western world order. now, a muslim fundamentalist conjours an image of a young militant 'terrorist' ready to attack or hijack with his lethal explosives. sadly, the media in Islamic country use the word usuli as the translation of fundamentalist when the term usuli originally used as a commanding term for a scholar who distinguishes himslef in one of the specialisation of Islamic diciplines (particularly Islamic jurisprudence). and in western christian concept, a christian fundamentalist is one who believes in the infallability of the Scriptures and literally accepts its comandments and creeds. how irony is that?
